Brief history

Our college’s rich history traces its origins back to 1960 when it was founded in Tavui, offering secretarial courses. At that time, Tavui Secretarial College provided training for Grade 8 students (formerly known as Form 2) preparing them for secretarial and office positions during the colonial and pre-independence eras.

In 1975, the college transitioned to Rabaul and was officially renamed Rabaul Secretarial College on November 19th of the same year. However, in 1984, due to volcanic concerns, Rabaul Secretarial College (RABSEC) was temporarily closed. It was reopened in 1985 under a new name, Rabaul Technical College.

In 1990, the college underwent another transformation, becoming the renowned Rabaul Business College. Tragically, the college faced destruction in 1994 when twin volcanic eruptions devastated the region.

After a five-year hiatus, a new college emerged in Kokopo, away from Rabaul, as part of the Gazelle Restoration program, generously funded by AUSAID. This institution was officially inaugurated as Kokopo Business College (KBC) on June 28th, 2000. Today, KBC stands as a symbol of resilience and commitment to quality education.
